Rasmus Vasli

In the same lecture I met Marcio Mascarehas, I also was introduced to Rasmus Vasli's work. He was also a photographer that specialises in portraiture. He is also the man behind the 'cup of pea' blog i mentioned in one of my first posts on this blog.

He began by showing us a series of photographs called 'Relative Values'

Rasmus explained during the slideshow of these photographs what his intentions were behind taking them. He briefly explained they look like typical family portraits but how do we know the people in the photographs are related and do we just make assumptions? Which is something I've never considered when analysing a 'family portrait'.
"This project uses group portraiture to look at additions to the family unit through marriage. The relationships between the existing family members and the newcomer are subtly played out in the body language and facial expressions of the sitters. The work points to a situation most people have experienced, with all its potential tensions it makes for an intriguing if slightly uncomfortable view of family ties."
